Mind tricks to make you strong

We all have had our share of difficulty opening a stubborn jar or bottle. Pickles, pasta sauce…the usual culprits. But sometimes bottles like Pellegrino.

And sure, there are tricks to help, like inserting a knife into the top and pushing it up, breaking the seal.

But this article isn’t about the tricks to open a jar. It’s about something more important: your mind helping you to open the jar.

I’ve noticed then when I’m struggling with a jar or bottle, I keep trying harder. That usually causes my muscles to tighten. That doesn’t tend to work and I just feel defeated and tired.

But I’ve found a new trick. A mind trick. I say to myself: “Opening this jar is about will…my will to do it and my belief that I can do it.”

Now I know it sounds overly simple and even stupid, but you know what? It works. Try it.

So many times, when we face something we think will be difficult, we seek out help outside ourselves. But your mind is very powerful. Try talking to yourself the next time you face an irritating job like opening a pickle jar.

And then try using your mindpower on other problems, bigger problems. I think you’ll be surprised at how powerful your thoughts are.
